Job seekers offered support to ensure they stay alert to opportunities and 'on employers' radar'

Skilled workers remain in demand despite the economic downturn caused by the Covid-19 lockdown - and an East Yorkshire recruitment expert says that highlights the importance of ‘staying alert to opportunities and on employers’ radar’.

Michal Cepowski, commercial director at recruitment specialists Staff Finders, based in Baker Street, Hull, says they have seen continued demand for roles such as mechanics, machinists, joiners and electricians in recent weeks.

The firm has also helped recruit a number of senior positions for expanding local firms during lockdown.

He says it demonstrates the need for those who find themselves out of work to remain optimistic despite the uncertain times ahead, with the team of recruitment consultants at Staff Finders working harder than ever to help people through challenging times.

The business offer services including CV writing support and training in many of the positions they recruit for, and this is something Mr Cepowski says can be a big help to many people at this time.

“We’re fully expecting to be supporting some people who are looking for a new job for the first time in many years over the coming weeks and months, that is the reality of the situation,” he said.

“Certainly there are not the positons out there as there were this time last year, or even the start of this year, but this is a time when recruitment specialists like ourselves can use our experience and skills to help people put themselves in the frame for suitable jobs as and when they arise.

“At present, despite the economic uncertainty, we are actively having to search for skilled workers to supply to our business clients because we have a shortage of them on our database. Had people with these skills been on our database, they would have had good jobs waiting for them.

“Our advice to anyone who finds themselves out of work is to make sure they do all to give themselves the best opportunity to be reemployed, be that through updating their CVs to reflect all the skills and experience they have to enrolling for training programmes.

“Our office in Hull has recently reopened following the closure for lockdown and we are helping people to update their CVs to reflect exactly what they can offer a potential employer.

“We are also developing what we call worker profiles for people, and these are important for us in supporting people as they provide a detailed summary of candidates, their skills, what they are best suited to and they type of work they would like. It enables us to quickly identify suitable employees when businesses do start recruiting.”

Firm specialises in working with wide range of sectors

Staff Finders works across a wide range of sectors including automotive, engineering, clerical and administration, manufacturing and logistics, supplying large numbers of workers to the food supply and greenhouse industries each year.

Mr Cepowski says a number of employers who use the firm and would usually be ‘recruiting in high numbers’ at this time of the year are yet to do so in 2020, but he is hopeful that there will be a change in the months ahead.

“Nobody can really predict what is going to happen in the next few months and we’ve all seen the predictions of job losses and redundancy warnings at many large name businesses,” he said.

“However, we are in a period where seasonal work will be in demand, so there will hopefully be opportunities there, and in any situation there are always businesses which grow and thrive. We have recruited for senior positions at businesses throughout the lockdown and skilled workers have remained in demand. www.shoestaller.com

“We have to be alert to opportunities at all times, and that is what will do for people who turn to us in these challenging times.”
