The UK left the EU on 31st December 2020 meaning that freedom of movement has changed.
The UK Government has created the ‘EU Settlement Scheme’ to enable EU citizens who are already in the UK to stay after the UK leaves the EU. You may already be a UK citizen or have made your application for the appropriate status but if you haven’t, we would be keen to understand your long term intentions in remaining in the UK.
To qualify for the scheme, you need to be resident in the UK by 31 December 2020. There are 2 types of settlement status you can apply for which are ‘pre-settled status’ or ‘settled status’. If you have been resident in the UK for less than 5 years, you can apply for pre-settled status. If you have been in the UK for 5 years or more, you can apply for settled status.
